Top of the Hill

This group meets monthly for a lovely luncheon and often a presentation. It is open to all who are approaching, past and long past retirement. Many thanks to Ruby Hammel and Ruth St. Martin who have led the grup for years and years. Welcome Joe Clay and Ron Schwartz who have joined the leadership team. Top of the Hill group continues to be one of our core community programs.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

One of our most enduring community activities, the Prayer Shawl Ministry is organized by Jean Wallberg, meeting Wednesday evenings throughout the year, and moving to Wednesday mornings for the coming summer months. Per the founders, compassion and the love of knitting/crocheting have been combined into a prayerful ministry and spiritual practice which reaches out to those in need of comfort and solace, as well as in celebration and joy.

Women’s Evening Spirituality Group

The Women’s Spirituality Group is alive and well, led by Pam McLleese. It meets monthly as a book club and supportive fellowship for making connections with our spiritual selves and with each other and meets on the fourth Monday of each month in the Conference room at 6:30 – 7:30 pm. We are a support group reading The Four Agreements. All are welcome! Contact Pam McCleese at pmccleese@yahoo.com for questions.

Sunday Fellowship Hour

It takes a village to host Fellowship Hour every Sunday after service. On the first Sunday of the month we provide Bistro, with coffee, tea, juice, and light food such as cheese, fruit and sweets.  On the other Sundays of the month we host Coffee Hour, usually with snacks but always with lots of conversation and comradery.

Fun(d)raisers

This year we are doing many small fun(d)raisers instead of a single annual event as we have in the past, and the money raised is earmarked to offset the cost of the new HVAC system. Kathy Bray and Carol Copene hosted a tea in February, and Roger Lamoni put on a bingo night in March. Kate Palmer organized a pancake brunch after worship on Easter Sunday, and Julie Berreth hosted a movie night in May featuring Monty Python and the Holy Grail.  Of course, each event required lots of help and the many wonderful volunteers made it all possible.

Beginning in June, we had a beer brewing class taught by Ramzy Asmar. Sinfully Salatious, Alt Facts and Divine Resurrection brews will be auctioned off at the next fundraiser! We had a yard sale and simultaneous blood drive in August, and look forward to another movie night toward the end of October.

Enjoying social time together is a higher priority than raising money, and the concept of doing multiple smaller events has been very well-received.

All Church Camp

We had a wonderful time at All Church Camp in September. Many thanks to Pam McCleese, Russ Gorringe and Joe Baker for making it all happen.  We had a chance to be in fellowship, connect with nature and each other, eat fabulous food, tie dye our own shirts, do crafts, hike, worship, write and laugh.  Let’s do it all again in 2018.

Canyon Worship

On the first Sunday in 2016, we worshipped at Spruces Campground in Big Cottonwood Canyon as we do each year. We celebrated communion, enjoyed uplifting music, sang, and prayed together in the beautiful subalpine mountains.  The fresh air seems to make people hungry and sloppy joes, potluck sides, and sticky desserts were just the ticket.
