Holladay United Church of Christ celebrates music as a glorious gift of God.  We welcome all singers, players, listeners, and lovers of music.

There are several ways to get involved with music at HUCC.

Choir

The choir at HUCC is open to anyone who wants to sing!  In addition to having a fun time, being in the choir is a great opportunity to nourish your soul and become a better musician.  The choir sings an anthem (special music) most Sundays in the 11 a.m. traditional service from September-May, but is also there to lead the congregation in hymns and service music every week.  We sing a variety of music, some easy and some difficult.Whether you’ve been in choir for years or haven’t had any musical training, we would love to work with you.  No matter what your abilities are, we want you to be able to experience the joy of singing at HUCC.  Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings in the choir room from 7:30-9 p.m.

Worship Bands

Being in a worship band is another great way to connect with others and with God, and increase your musical skills.  We currently have three worship bands that play in the 9 a.m. alternative service.  Twist of Faith plays twice a month, the other group (name TBD) plays once a month, and (new this year!) our youth band will play once a month.  The worship bands play a variety of music, from rock to folk to gospel to praise to jazz to world…the list just goes on!  Rehearsals are at 7 p.m. on Thursday evenings in the sanctuary.Calling All Musicians! If you sing or play an instrument and would like to be involved in some way in either the alternative or traditional worship service, we’d love to hear from you.  We also have a great need for people to run the sound board.  Training is available.

Twist of Faith CD

One of our worship bands, “Twist of Faith,” has released their second CD called “Visions of Hope.”  This features all original songs; some that by now will sound fimaliar and some others that are brand new.  You can order a copy at the CD Store.Since we started the Alternative Worship experiment at Holladay United Church of Christ in the fall of 1997 the band has taken on a lot of different members, and we have had many guests perform with us. “Twist of Faith” isn’t really a band in the traditional sense of the word as the members are often changing. It is actually a ministry. As a new member comes he/she adds his/her gifts to the music that we perform and forever changes us. The songs on this cd feature many of the different members of Twist of Faith and the creativity that they have brought to the ministry. After we finished our first cd we almost immediately went to work on our second; however this project turned out to be far from easy. We spent a good deal of time recording several of the songs at the studio where we recorded our first cd. Unfortunately, they went out of business. We were told that our master tapes were lost or destroyed. Through a great stroke of good fortune our tapes were found by one of the former engineers and returned to us intact two years later. Well, we had done too much work to not go forward, so we decided to get together at a different studio and finish the project. This was particularly challenging since a couple of the band members had moved on to another project. The synergy was great! And not only did we finish the tunes that we had started, but we recorded a few others from scratch. You have the result in your hand: twelve tunes spanning the years of 1998-2005. Although a few of the songs were on our first cd, those have been remastered, or completely rerecorded. I hope you will find these songs meaningful and helpful in your journey.
